Double-Acting
5 x 5 Pneumatic Actuator The Double-Acting 5 x 5 Pneumatic Actuator produces a change in the flow of a controlled variable, such as combustion air, through manipulation of mechanical dampers or the speed control of blower turbines.
The principle components of the actuator are a cylinder assembly, positioner, reversing relay, and airlocks housed inside a metal case. The components are sercured on mounting flanges or the inside of the actuator case. The actuator output shaft protrudes from both sides of the actuator case. Connection to associated damper or turbine controls are made by coupling the output shaft directly to such controls, or by use of intemediary linkages between the shaft and controls. Manual postioning of the shaft in the case of controled air loss is accomplished by a manual lever attached to the end of the output shaft opposite the control linkage. Supply air to the actuator must be turned off at the postioner, and the bypass vlave adjacent to the lever arm must be opened before the lever arm can be manually positioned. A handle beneath the manual control lever permits locking the output shaft in any position. A knob below the handle connects with a valve in the positioner's valve block to control admission of supply air. Airflow between the two sides of the actuator cylinder is controlled by a valve located behind the output shaft. On the same side of the case, located above the bypass vlave and the actuator shaft, are two airlocks that are actuated in case of supply air loss. Tubing connections to individual control components are provided from supply and input ports on the sides of the actuator case. A seperate port is also provided that connects to the locking chambers of the two airlocks.
